Ash is on his way towards Celadon City, and encounters a Mankey. The Mankey starts chasing him. Later on, the Mankey steals Ash's hat. Ash tries to get it back and fails. Team Rocket arrive to get Pikachu and when Mankey walks by, James kicks it away and it evolves into Primeape. They run away from it. After remembering the words Prof. Oak said, Ash captures it.

Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 25 – Primeape Goes Bananas
Ash is on his way towards Celadon City, and encounters a Mankey. The Mankey starts chasing him. Later on, the Mankey steals Ash's hat. Ash tries to get it back and fails. Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 24 – Haunter Versus Kadabra
Ash and his friends go back to Saffron City ready to try again for the Marsh Badge in the Gym. Ash asks Haunter for help to defeat Sabrina and Haunter agrees. However, Haunter disappears on Ash during the match and Brock and Misty get turned into dolls, scaring Ash out of his wits. During the next match, Haunter suddenly appears in front of Sabrina while Kadabra and Pikachu are battling. Sabrina and her Kadabra become unable to battle after being sent into peals of laughter by Haunter, giving Ash the victory.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 23 – The Tower of Terror
On their way to Lavender Town, the woods suddenly become foggy. The group quarrels for a bit and arrives at the ghost tower. Team Rocket encounters the ghost Pokémon while setting a trap for Ash and his friends, and end up getting frightened by the ghost Pokémon. The gang hear screaming from the tower and Ash and his friends are afraid to go in. Haunter turns Ash and Pikachu into ghosts. They learn that it was a Gastly, Haunter and Gengar looking for playmates. After having fun with Ash, Haunter decides to follow Ash as his new Pokémon.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 22 – Abra and the Psychic Showdown
Ash and his friends finally arrived at Saffron City. Ash has found the Saffron Gym, but is warned by a strange man not to go in. Ash goes in anyway to discover a strange training facility. He battles Sabrina who has two personalities; that of an evil trainer, and that of a little girl. Transported into a toy box set, the group is rescued by the strange man who gives Ash a tip that he may be able to beat Sabrina with a ghost Pokémon from Lavender Town.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 21 – Bye Bye Butterfree
As the group continues on their way, they notice a flock of Butterfree out over the ocean. Brock informs Ash that it is the mating season for all of the Butterfree. Ash decides to release his Butterfree so that it can mate. However, Team Rocket has plans to steal all the Butterfree.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 20 – The Ghost of Maiden’s Peak
The boat that Ash and his friends were in lands at a small town. This town is celebrating Obon. Brock and James both see a girl standing by the sea who disappears, and while Brock falls for this mirage girl, Ash, Misty and Team Rocket have a different plan. They try to stop Brock and James and suddenly, the maiden reveals herself as Gastly, a ghost Pokémon. It is revealed that the maiden actually exists as a ghost and is still waiting for the one she loves to return. When Ash battles the Gastly with Squirtle/Bulbasaur, Gastly turns into Venustoise.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 19 – Tentacool & Tentacruel
Stuck in Porta Vista because they missed the boat, Ash and friends sit around waiting for the next boat and witness a great explosion. They later discover that it is a group of Tentacool that is attacking the boats. Ash and his friends manage to appease the Tentacool and continue on their journey.

Ash and his friends have finally arrived in Porta Vista, a beachside tourist town. After destroying an old man's ship, they must help in the old man's business. Info: The dubbing of this episode was skipped due to a scene where James puts on inflatable breasts. When it was finally dubbed and aired in 2000, the related scenes were removed.

Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 12 – Here Comes The Squirtle Squad
On the way to Vermilion City, Ash, Misty, and Brock become the “victims” of the Squirtle Squad’s pranks. They end up falling down a hole, and are even eventually captured by them. It turns out that they are working together with Team Rocket. When Pikachu is severely injured, the Squirtle let him out to go get medicine from town, but will the Squirtle keep their promise and leave Pikachu, Misty, and Brock alone while he is gone, and what is Team Rocket really up to? In the end after Pikachu is healed, Squirtle, the leader of the Squirtle Squad wants to join Ash on his travels.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 11 – Charmander – The Stray Pokémon
On the way to Vermilion City, Ash, Misty, and Brock come across a Charmander sitting on a rock. Ash tries to catch it, but it turns out it has a trainer and can’t be captured, so they head to the Pokémon Center. At the center, a hotshot trainer named Damien is bragging about how he left it, promising to come back for it. After hearing this, they head back out to get the poor Pokémon as the rainstorm threatens its very life. After a battle with Team Rocket, Ash captures the Charmander, gaining a new friend and Pokémon.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 10 – Bulbasaur and the Hidden Village
Ash and friends are still on their way to Vermilion City and still lost. They stop by a pond for a break when they see an Oddish taking a drink. Ash wants to catch it but Misty already has Starmie out. She weakens it and throws a PokéBall but a Bulbasaur pops out of the bushes and deflects the ball. Ash sends out Butterfree to catch the Bulbasaur, but Bulbasaur deflects its sleep powder and escapes. The continue on their journey and keep getting caught in traps, until Bulbasaur's owner, Melanie, finds them and saves them and brings them back to her cabin. It turns out that she helps injured, sick, and abandoned Pokémon, and they decide to help. Meanwhile, Team Rocket decides to steal all the Pokémon, while Brock could make a startling decision. In the end, Ash catches a Bulbasaur.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 9 – The School of Hard Knocks
Our three heroes have lost their way in the depths of a dense wood, shrouded in thick, white mist. Momentarily giving up, they decide to break for a brief rest. As Ash wanders deeper into the wood, searching for firewood, he happens across a young boy being bullied by five classmates gathered around him. Eavesdropping on their conversation, Ash learns that the boys are attending a preparatory school for Pokémon trainers. Graduates from the school are automatically qualified to participate in the Pokémon League without undergoing any actual test of skill. Ash, Misty, and Brock head to the school and don’t agree with some of their ideas of training, something their “leader” doesn’t take well.

After receiving his second badge, Ash sets off triumphantly for Vermilion City. Along the way, they hear of a trainer named A.J. - a fierce Pokémon trainer who has never lost a match. Full of self-confidence from his own record of ten victories in a row, Ash heads directly for the gym to find his new opponent. When they arrive, a huge bulletin is in front of the gym with a neon sign declaring “98 Consecutive Victories”, which appeals to Ash’s over-confidence. A.J. is on the brink of achieving his goal of 100 straight victories, after which he will embark on a journey to gather badges. Will victory fall on the side of Ash and his 10 straight victories or with A.J. and his string of 98? In the process, will Ash learn some important lessons about the bonds between Pokémon and trainer?

In his search to collect Trainer Badges, Ash heads for Cerulean City, intending to confront the Cerulean Gym Leader. When they arrive, the exterior of the Gym gives the strange appearance of an aquarium. And what could be the role of the three beautiful swimming sisters? More importantly, will Ash be able to defeat the strangely absent Gym Leader to earn his next badge?

Ash is ready to challenge the Pewter City Gym Leader, Brock, for his first Badge, but loses the battle. The man he met earlier takes Ash and Pikachu to a watermill to make Pikachu stronger. Then, Ash battles Brock again. Pikachu Thunderbolts the whole field. When Ash is about to lose again, Brock stops the battle. Then, a fire broke out and water came down. Ash was going to defeat Brock when Brock's siblings stop him. Ash leaves the Gym but Brock catches up to him and gives Ash the Boulder Badge. The mysterious man from earlier turns out to be Brock's father and takes over the Gym for Brock. Brock decides to join Ash on his journey.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 4 – Challenge of the Samurai
Ash and Misty are now wandering through Viridian Forest. A Samurai challenges Ash to a battle, and it turns out to be Metapod vs. Metapod. After a short time, a swarm of Beedrill attacks, and Ash's Metapod is taken by them. Can Ash get his Pokémon back from them or will it be doomed to live its life without Ash? Also, Ash's Metapod evolves into a beautiful Butterfree.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 3 – Ash Catches a Pokémon
Ash, Pikachu and Misty have entered the Viridian Forest. Ash has spotted a Caterpie and thrown a Pokéball at it. Capturing it, Ash is overjoyed at his first catch. Misty, however, is scared of bugs and screams every time it comes near her. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is following them, ready for a fresh attempt at capturing Pikachu. Ash decides to capture another Pokémon, and manages to get a Pidgeotto. Can he, Misty, and his Pokémon fend off Team Rocket again?
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 2 – Pokémon Emergency!
Finally arriving in Viridian City, Ash is cornered by Officer Jenny who asks why he is carrying Pikachu instead of having it in a Pokéball. He explains that Pikachu doesn’t like Pokéballs and shows her his Pokédex proving that he is one of the Pallet Town Trainers. Jenny takes Ash to the Pokémon Center where Nurse Joy begins treatment on the injured Pikachu. Before Pikachu’s treatment finishes, however, the Center is attacked by two members of Team Rocket.
Pokemon Season 1 - Episode 1 – Pokémon I Choose You!
Ash Ketchum is finally 10 years old, old enough to become a Pokémon Trainer. He wakes up late, arrives to Professor Oak's lab late, and all the Pokémon are gone! Ash has no choice but to take a naughty Pikachu. Pikachu won't listen or go inside its Poké Ball, so Ash must drag it along (literally). After many failed attempts at capturing some Pokémon, Ash throws a rock and it hits a Spearow. The Spearow gets angry and the entire flock starts chasing Ash and Pikachu! Ash, with no Pokémon that will listen to him, must escape from the raging Spearow. Can they escape, and will Ash ever earn Pikachu's trust?
Note: The previously unknown Pokémon, Ho-Oh is seen towards the end of the episode.
Pokemon Chronicles 22 – Pikachu’s Winter Vacation (Christmas Night / Kanga Games)
This episode is split into two parts, "Christmas Night" and "Kanga Games". In "Christmas Night", Pikachu, Togepi, and more of Ash, Misty and Brock's Pokémon cause havoc on Christmas Eve. In "Kanga Games", the Pokémon go exploring the mountain.

With two days left in Big Town, Meowth gives up on his statue, and just wants to eat his tuna fish sandwich, which then mysteriously runs away from him. Then, the next day, he tries to woo a Skitty while the Pichu Brothers chase after an Azurill.

When playtime turns into a fight, the Pichu Brothers get separated. Compounding this, Pichu Little is soon miles above the ground with only balloons on a string keeping him up, and a wild Murkrow bent on popping the balloons is flying around. This story is continued in "Big Meowth, Little Dreams."
Pokemon Chronicles 19 – Big Meowth, Little Dreams
Meowth takes a break from trying to capture Pikachu to spend time in Big Town. But his dream project to build a golden statue gets off to a bad start when he loses his picnic basket in a series of mix-ups. And then to pay for it he gets some jobs, but makes the Pichu possé to do the work. This story is continued in "Trouble In Big Town."
Pokemon Chronicles 18 – The Search For The Legend
While taking a voyage on the SS Anne, Ritchie meets a trainer called Silver, who is on his way to battle Moltres with two Professors from the Bogus Fake University of Science. However, the "professors" are really Butch and Cassidy, and they want to capture Moltres for Team Rocket.
Pokemon Chronicles 17 – Those Darned Electobuzz
Casey meets the pitcher for her favourite baseball team, the Electabuzz. He left due to a shoulder injury, but has lost the fire to perform, while his Charizard has literally lost its fire and ability to fly. She must restore the fighting spirit to both of them.

Misty and Daisy each have a new Luvdisc, but only one loves the other. To make matters worse, Butch and Cassidy steal them for Professor Nanba, who plans to use them to rid the world of love forever.

Professor Oak and Tracey visit Gary, who is researching prehistoric Pokémon. They have successfully brought an Aerodactyl to life, but must gain control of it before anyone is endangered (or before Butch and Cassidy can steal it).
